The 1970s: Lebanon is the
Switzerland of the Orient.
What was hidden behind this façade?
April the 13th 1975
saw the beginning of the war in Lebanon that lasted for two
decades.
The Lebanese government, failing
to assume its role and protect its own citizens, obliged all the
communities within Lebanon to organize militarily and socially in
order to ensure their survival.
The Lebanese Forces were born.
August 1982, The Lebanese Forces
Commander-in-Chief Bachir Gemayel was elected president of the
Lebanese republic.
3 weeks later the President was
assassinated and Hope was shattered. The Lebanon fell again into
torment.
1986, Dr. Samir Geagea assumed
the command of the Lebanese Forces and halted a process of
concessions that was developing at the expense of Lebanon and of
its Christian community. Dr Geagea carries a plan on the national
level: Decentralization.
The organization of the Military
within the Lebanese Forces went hand in hand with the concern to
ameliorate the living conditions of the citizens. Hundreds of
Open-heart surgery operations were funded by the Lebanese
Forces for the benefit of the
needy from any confession and political affiliation.
The people had a New Hope.
1991, whilst At the apex of his
power, Dr. Samir Geagea opts for peace through The Taef Agreement
with its international guarantees. He also believed in the
reconciliation and cooperation amongst all Lebanese.
Let us see how the good will of
the Lebanese Forces was reciprocated.
(Projection of the names of those
who were kidnapped, tortured or killed)
1991 and 1992, Dr. Geagea refused
twice to act as a false witness and become a minister in puppet
Governments lacking any national project or appeal.
February 27th 1994,
One day after announcing the intended Pope’s visit to Lebanon,
an explosion took place during mass at the Our Lady of Deliverance
Church in Zouk Mkail in the North of Beirut. The score 11 dead, 70
wounded.
Let these pictures reflect the
Horror.
An investigation took place…
let us look at its methods as depicted by the British Television.
Let us hear now the testimony of
two members of the Lebanese Forces. Like hundreds of their
comrades, they have been tortured in the Ministry of defense Jail. |
