More arrests

The Lebanese
Authorities continue to arrest more members and supporters of the
Lebanese Forces Party. After
the Urgent appeal we issued last week, more individuals were
arrested, beaten and interrogated with in an attempt to intimidate
and curb the opposition.
Names
of those arrested:
The following
are the names of the persons who were arrested recently and
subjected to beating, humiliation and several days of detention:

On October 15, the Foundation of Human and Humanitarian
Rights Lebanon issued a statement concerning the arrests of six
people in Akkar area by the Syrian Intelligence Agents, according
to reliable sources. Two
brothers, Omar and Samer Massoud were taken from their house in
Andkit, a northern village, to the Intelligence Center in Halba,
where they were kept for 12 hours and were beaten and subjected to
insults before they were released. The others are from Kobayat ,
Joseph Jabour, Alexi Scandar, and two engineers Jean Hana and Jimi
Jabour.

On October 17 2000, the government arrested Ramzi Irani,
student at the Lebanese University.
He was released few days later with broken ribs.

On October 18, 2000, Georges kaddis was kidnapped by the
Syrians in Tripoli and was released after 5 days.
·
On October 19, the government arrested the following: Tony
Marrab, Leba Marrab, Tony Zibara, Youssef Dib, Leba al Cid, Elie
Touma, in addition to some Lebanese Forces from Becharri.

The campaign of arrests continues in Zahle, a Lebanese
city. Several people
so far were detained and were asked on whether they have firearms
and where do they hide them.
Who are the people that are under their command or take
orders from them. They
are even asked who are their spiritual leaders.

On October 27, the government arrested 26 individuals and
their names are: Soubhy Andary, Fredy Kayrouz, Charbel Zina Rahme,
Charbel Boulos, Chawky Karam, Charbel Nakhoul, Fady Abd-el-sater,
Nidal Maroun, Sleiman Chidiak, Paul Sfeir, Tony Hany, Tony El-mir,
Tony Hbeiter, Georges Dib Geagea, Youssef Dib, Sarkis Sakr, Ziad
El-khoury, Boulos Nouh, Raymond Al-waddy, Sarkis El-hachem, Michel
Fares, Boutros Boutros, Elie Touma Farah, Joseph Abdo, Georges Al-Alam,
and Becharah Tawk.

Throughout the time, the house of Mrs. Setrida Geagea, the
wife of the imprisoned leader of the Lebanese Forces, Dr. Samir
Geagea, remains under surveillance.
The Intelligence Services circle the neighborhood 24 hours
a day and her visitors are subjected to heavy searches and
interrogation at the two check-points just before her residence.
Some of the
above mentioned persons were released after long hours of
investigation and harassment but they stand a chance to be
arrested again as it happened in the past many times.
