Interior Minister Ziad Baroud met with Speaker Nabih Berri at the latter's residence in Ain al-Tineh on Tuesday, after which Baroud told reporters that voter rolls are finalized and that he set May 2 as the date to hold the first round of municipal elections in Mount Lebanon.
Baroud added that his ministry will publish his announcement dated March 30 in the government's official newsletter.
He also said that the law stipulates that the interior minister should call for the elections, reiterating that his decision does not in any way undermine the deliberations of the parliamentary commissions on the draft municipal electoral law.
