The Lebanese army on Tuesday freed two Polish tourists kidnapped near Baalbek and killed one of the captors, the military command said.
A Lebanese army communiqué said Polish tourists were kidnapped by two members of Jaafar family.

It said the captors fled to an unknown destination in a rented "Renault Clio" car.

A man identified as Rashed Rida Jaafar was killed during the operation to release the tourists, the communiqué said.

LBC TV said the crackle of gunfire and bursts of rocket-propelled grenades could be heard in the vicinity of Hermel around 11:00 pm following Jaafar's killing.
