Businessman caught with $1 million notes

Given that a $1 million bill has never been printed legally, the chances of spending a counterfeit version would appear slim.

But that is what police found in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room after being led there by a cleaner who had been tipped with an $500 note. The 'ecstatic' cleaner later discovered that it too was a fake.

In total, officers discovered $66m in counterfeit bills, including 60 $1m notes and bundles of other $100,000 and $500 bills stuffed in a bag. The largest denomination of bill ever printed in the US was a $100,000 note in 1934.

A Lebanese businessman was charged with possession of counterfeit notes, which in Malaysia carries a jail term of up to 10 years.
