A wing of Hezbollah will continue to be listed as a terrorist organisation, the Rudd government has told a parliamentary committee.

Hezbollah's External Security Organisation (ESO) is considered the terrorist wing of the Lebanese Shia political organisation.

The previous Howard government listed ESO as a terrorist organisation under Australia's Criminal Code in 2003 and again in May 2007 after a parliamentary review in 2005.

Parliament's joint committee on intelligence and security recommended the listing continue, a decision supported by the government.

It also agreed with the committee's recommendation to relist the al-Zarqawi network known as Tanzim Qa'idat al-Jihad fi Bilad al-Rafidayn, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's Lashkar-e-Tayibba, and Hamas' Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades as proscribed terrorist organisations.
